Ear Acupuncture

What is AcuDetox?

AcuDetox is the original name for what is now commonly referred to as 5NP (5 Needle Protocol). This is an ear acupuncture treatment with experiential evidence supporting its effectiveness in alleviating psychological and substance related symptoms.

Benefits are subjective and differ from person to person yet generally have included:

  • Reduction in anxiety
  • Improved sleep
  • Reduction in drug and sugar cravings
  • Reduction in withdrawal symptoms
  • Increased focus or energy.

Risks are minimal and may include discomfort upon insertion (pinch sensation) that quickly dissipates or can be eased with adjustments or removal. There are no known diagnostic contraindications to participating in 5NP and no negative side effects.

$5 Extra Session Fee

AcuDetox (5NP) can easily be integrated into your in-person session per your request and with signed informed consent. Five needles will be placed in each ear at the start of session and removed at the end. Session may progress as planned.

The 5 Points

According to reflexology, the 5 ear points are linked to specific body systems and their functions.

  • Sympathetic: This point supports parasympathetic recovery and rebalancing, helping to mitigate fight or flight so rest and digest can be experienced. This point ultimately relaxes the nervous system.
  • Shen Men: In Chinese medicine, this point refers to non-physical aspects of a person's life, and when stimulated, can promote calm and relaxation of the emotions, which supports restful sleep. It is also believed this point helps those with ADHD symptoms.
  • Kidney: Disharmony in the kidney can manifest as insecurity and fear. When stimulated, this point helps activate courage.
  • Liver: The liver organ is believed to carry anger, irritability, and depression. When this point is stimulated, it brings to balance the emotions and promotes kindness. This is also a detoxification point.
  • Lung: This point is associated with grief, loss and shame. When stimulated it helps support self-worth and dignity.
